What is Unlicensed Activity?

  • Unlicensed activity is a serious threat to the health, safety, and welfare of Florida residents and visitors.
     
  • Unlicensed activity occurs when a person performs or offers to perform a job or service that requires licensure in one of the professions regulated by the Division of Regulation, Division of Real Estate and Division of Certified Public Accounting.
     
  • Unlicensed activity in these professions is a criminal offense and is referred to the local State Attorney.

BROWARD COUNTY -- The BSO concluded an undercover sting operation which cracked down on unlicensed contractors. In particular, the operation targeted many repeat offenders identified by Broward County's Consumer Protection Division. Detective Daniel Belyeu said "(homeowners) do need to be cautious of who they're inviting into their home." He says he has seen people with violent criminal records working as unlicensed contractors.

FLAGLER COUNTY -- Adam Thomas Vatrano, 43, was arrested and charged with 11 counts of grand theft from a person greater than 65 years old. That's a felony in Florida. He's also charged with unlicensed contracting.

PASCO COUNTY -- 'Operation In Hot Water' began with the Florida department of business and professional regulation locating contractors through ads. Then deputies would set an appointment seeking a bid for installation of a water heater.
